HOW CAN WE BEST HONOR YOUR LOVED ONE?

LIVING IN THE MOMENT, THRIVING IN COMMUNITY.

An individual’s wellness, safety and self-expression are at the center of our philosophy for caring for residents with Alzheimer’s or dementia, including those in our Memory Care living spaces and any of our living spaces. Named Ecumen Awakenings™, our award-winning approach creates inclusive, empowering experiences for your loved one.

Ecumen Awakenings

An award-winning approach to Alzheimer’s and dementia care, Awakenings™ was developed by Ecumen to provide a customized experience for our residents. Programming brings our residents the care, comfort, community, and joyful opportunities they crave to live an engaged and purposeful life—every day.

Our team collaborates with residents, caregivers and family members to promote enjoyment, interaction, independence, and wellness of mind, body, and spirit. It’s a fully integrated community where our care team spends time throughout the day engaging with residents, offering the care and attention they need to thrive.

Celebrating the Individual

Each person’s life story plays a key role in defining their experience in our community. Care focuses on life events, family history, and interests that have defined each resident’s unique sense of self. We engage the five senses to promote a resident’s individual enjoyment of their surroundings.

Although specific activities may differ from community to community throughout our portfolio of living spaces, programming often includes the following activities.

Living Spaces Designed for Our Residents

To minimize disruptions that can come with Alzheimer’s or dementia, many details of our Memory Care living spaces are thoughtfully designed. Examples include glare-free lighting, shorter hallways, private rooms, activity stations, and discrete directional cues. Our spaces are built to work perfectly for the people who live in them.

A Truly Engaged Care Team

Rest assured your loved one is in good hands. Our care team members complete continuous training on the newest research and care advancements, ensuring our residents receive the best care and services possible.

Training includes:

  • Recognizing and understanding the individual needs of Memory Care residents
  • Development of enriching programming to provide joy and support individuality
  • Implementation of unnecessary medication reduction strategy
  • Communication techniques
  • Understanding the challenges and improving the dining experience for persons with dementia

Purpose & Honor: Awakenings

Ecumen Awakenings is not a cure; it is very collaborative care that puts the person at the center of what we do. Long-term use of antipsychotics isn’t always the answer, especially for people living with Alzheimer’s and related dementias. Awakenings discovers unmet needs that often trigger behavioral symptoms and addresses the triggers with non-pharmacological care techniques. In partnership with AHCA/NCAL, Ecumen Lakeview Commons gives you an inside look at how Awakenings changes the lives of those we serve.
