Helping Older Americans for the Next 50 Years: What’s It Going To Take?

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Medicare, Medicaid and the Older Americans Act.  During that time, lawmakers have constantly tinkered to keep the programs up-to-date as the nation has gotten grayer and issues facing aging Americans have changed dramatically.

Last week, MPR’s Tom Weber hosted a discussion on where we’ve been with policies to help seniors and what the next 50 years might look like.  His guests were Dave Durenberger, former U.S. senator from Minnesota and expert on health policy, and Robert Kane, professor and Minnesota chairperson in Long-Term Care and Aging, School of Public Health, Division of Health Policy & Management, University of Minnesota.
