Five Ecumen owned and managed sites in Minnesota have received a “Best Nursing Home” rating by U.S. News & World Report magazine.

Of the 374 nursing homes in Minnesota, 99 received an overall “Top Performing” rating. The five Ecumen sites receiving “top performing” ratings are Ecumen Pathstone Living in Mankato, Ecumen Detroit Lakes in Detroit Lakes, and Ecumen-managed Clarkfield Care Center in Clarkfield Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park, and Pelican Valley Health Center in Pelican Rapids. U.S. News evaluated more than 15,000 homes nationwide, across each state. A new set of ratings places nearly 2,300 nursing homes of about 15 percent in the United States as top care providers in the country for 2017-18.

To create the “Nursing Home Finder,” U.S. News used data from Nursing Home Compare, a program run by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The nursing homes were rated “poor” to “top-performing” on a scale of 1 to 5.

U.S. News says nursing home performance was evaluated over time, averaging monthly data over a year and much emphasis was placed on strong performance in medical quality measures. To receive a high U.S. News rating, homes had to provide significantly more than the required minimum of rehabilitation therapy.

U.S. News also offers a nationwide Nursing Home Finder with comprehensive information about care, safety, health inspections, staffing and more for nearly every nursing home in the country. With this tool, individuals can easily conduct a customized search for a highly rated nursing home by location, distance, Medicare and Medicaid coverage and size.
