Ecumen honors John Scanlan, who is 100.

Born: April 8, 1916, in North Saint Paul, Minn.

Residence: Ecumen Lakeview Commons in Maplewood, Minn.                      

Hobbies/Interests: John enjoys the outdoors and birdwatching. Fishing on many of Minnesota’s lakes with friends was a favorite pastime.  He used to play cribbage and was a volunteer fireman in Oakdale.

Family: Married to Anna Catherine, now deceased, for 29 years.  Six children — two sons and four daughters.  Eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Secrets of Longevity: Walk every day, stay out of debt and always say your prayers.

Other Interesting Facts: John loves pie — especially cherry and blueberry.  Also loves music — country, big band and Irish. 

Occupation: Worked on the railroad, delivering mail and also drove a postal truck.
