Home sharing becoming more popular for boomers and seniors, particularly women.
Remember the show Golden Girls, about the four older women who lived together under the same roof? Well the real life version of Golden Girls is happening more frequently as people wrestle with housing costs and the hardwired human desire for socialization. HomeShare NY is one example of a roommate matching service in New York State. Oft-quoted on this growing trend is Connie Skillingstad, who runs Golden Girl Homes, Inc., a volunteer-based group in Robbinsdale, Minn., that introduces single Twin Cities seniors to the concept of communal living and to each other. She and others are in this PBS story on home sharing.
